“We touch things to assure ourselves of reality. We touch the objects of our love. We touch the things we form. Our tactile experiences are elemental”.

-Annie Albers, On Weaving (1965)

Artist Statement

I create sculptures and installations that invite viewers into domestic spaces shaped by memory. Using industrial materials like wire, tarps, and silicone caulking paired with traditional fiber techniques such as weaving, crocheting, and beading, I explore the tension and connection between material and memory, labor and identity.

My creative process begins with a personal memory rooted in a relationship with a family member. Every thread, texture, and object holds a story. The materials I choose are not just tools, they are vessels carrying the weight of familial history. The delicate doilies that once adorned my grandmother’s home embody her warmth and care, while the wire caps from my father’s electrical work truck evoke resilience and labor. By reinterpreting her intricate doilies in silicone or wire, I draw closer to their labor and craft while embedding my own identity into the material.

I am fascinated by materials and the dualities they hold. My work navigates the intersection of gender and labor, weaving together soft femininity and rugged masculinity, memory and physical reality. My hands become the link between these opposing forces, merging different threads of my family and personal history into one.

Ultimately, my work exists in the in-between. Materials are stripped of their original functions and transformed in uncanny, surreal ways. Caulking no longer seals bathtubs, rather it becomes a mark-making tool for crocheting doilies. This material sleight of hand introduces both humor and reflection, challenging expectations of fiber traditions and domestic labor. Through my practice, I honor my family, my identity, and invite others to reflect on their own personal and cultural legacies.
